Brief History:

It was in 1877 when East-the-Water, by the long-bridge, was but a huddle of houses that a local business man, by the name of Mr H.M. Restarick, felt that a House was needed in which God could be Praised. It is in this original building that we continue to PRAISE GOD today and serve as a Christian meeting place for the community of East-the-Water which has grown considerable in size.
The meetings prospered and consisted of Christians from various denominations. Early in the turn of the 20th Century, 'The Bethel' was taken up by the 'FREE CHURCH COUNCIL' who took over the need to purchase the building from its founder owner. This over a period of time was successful and the new council became responsible for running the church. Today the Bethel is still a free independent evangelical church but is now affiliated to the F.I.E.C. (The Federation of independent Evangelical Churches).
It is the desire of 'The Bethel Church' to maintain a place of worship for Christians of the community and to uphold the desire for God's Will and Purpose to be fulfilled in this present time. This being that Jesus Christ is HEAD OVER THE CHURCH and that God's People are open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. In relation to the history and development of 'The Bethel' there is a free booklet available to those interested with much more detail. To obtain this please go to 'Helpline', click on the relevant page and send details requesting your copy which will be sent to you.
Brief Summary of Beliefs:
  • We believe in the 'God Head'. The Father – The Son – The Holy Spirit.
  • We believe that all men can be saved through the power of repentance from sin and faith in the Lord Jesus CHRIST.
  • We believe that Jesus died on the CROSS, shed His own BLOOD – died – was buried – and rose again from the dead so that we might be saved.
  • We believe in the confession of Faith in Christ for our salvation and that Jesus was resurrected from the dead for our justification.
  • It is the responsibility, of every true believer, to worship in fellowship regularly together.
  • To be actively involved in the building of the Kingdom through their calling, gifts and graces that God has given to each believer.
  • To maintain and uphold the responsibility of giving in tithes and offerings to meet the needs of the church in evangelism and the nurturing of Christians, and in meeting all the needs of the church.

Are you Frustrated with life
There are those that maybe experience a period of frustrating situations and would like someone that they may be able to talk to. It may be that you are seeking healing from a sickness or disease or it may be that you have already found God's love and peace and would like to share your experience with others in our neighbourhood. The Bethel could be just the place where you could start, knowing that you are needed.

From all walks of life from the youngest to the eldest we believe that if we can share together, to encourage one another and to be able to experience this kind of relationship with God and to have fellowship support, then we at The Bethel Church would welcome you and do what we can to help.
Then Jesus came to them and said “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age”.
